The Optec® 5000 is the vision screener most similar to the old Titmus® OV-7 unit, which was sold before 1985. Similar to the OV-7, the Optec® 5000 screeners feature two independent viewing ports, one for distance (20 feet) and one for near (18 inches) testing. The Optec® 5000 is a manual screener, requiring the person administering the test to rotate a dial to move through the different test slides. These screeners have a durable ABS plastic shell which is lightweight, washable, and scratch resistant. The light source is provided by LED lights, which have a conservative life expectancy of 20 years. Slides are easily changed without the need for tools via a door on the back of the unit. The unit requires the testee to depress a button with their forehead to activate the lights; however, an optional headrest clip is available (item #83880), which will keep the lights on regardless of the patient’s position. In addition to the integrated handle built into the top of each model to facilitate easy transport, all Optec® 5000 units will come with a newly designed rolling carrying case (item #32269). The lightness of the unit itself combined with the ease of use and mobility of the new carrying case make the Optec® 5000 extremely easy to move from one location to another. The rolling carrying case will also fit the older Optec® 2000 as well as Titmus®OV- 7 models.
