Win a Nurse Mates® Ultimate Signature Traveler!

To enter, simply send us a story about your experiences as a school nurse. Your story may be selected to be included in our Henry Street series. One lucky winner will be selected at random from those who submit stories between October 26, 2021 and November 30, 2021.

In 2003, MacGill published “A Long Way from Henry Street,” a collection of stories written by school nurses just like you, followed by a second volume in 2012. Now MacGill is collecting and sharing new stories as a way to inspire other school nurses and to create a place for school nurses to connect with their community.

Write about something important to you – a specific story or your overall thoughts and perspectives. Not sure what to write about? Here are some ideas to get you thinking:

  • Sometimes children may be walked to your office by another student. Has an accompanying student ever gone above and beyond in a way that impressed you? Or perhaps explained what happened in a way that gave you a giggle? Tell us about it.
  • Have you had a rough day that was turned around by a child saying something funny or touching? Tell us about it.
  • Have you ever been short of supplies and had to MacGyver a solution? Tell us about your inventive remedy.
  • Do you have a story about a phone call to a parent, whether funny or heart-warming, that went a different direction than you intended or gave you insight into a child that was unexpected?

Your story does not have to be about a particular topic or a certain length. And you don’t have to be a strong writer to submit a story. Our marketing team will serve as your editors and will ensure that you sound polished without changing the meaning of your story. Stories may be shortened to fit a particular medium.

What is Henry Street?

The Henry Street Settlement is a humanitarian organization that funded the first school nurse in 1902.
